Poppy Seed Cake Delight
Ingredients
- 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
- 4 egg yolks
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (added to 1/3 of the dough)
- 550 g ready-made poppy seed filling
- 4 egg whites
- 1 packet lemon-flavored jelly powder
- Just under 1 cup sugar
Instructions
- Incorporate chopped butter into the flour, then add egg yolks, sugar, and baking powder. Knead until smooth dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 3 parts.
- Line the bottom of the baking dish with one part of the dough.
- Put the second part of the dough in the freezer.
- For the third part, add cocoa powder and knead the dough.
- Spread poppy seed filling over the raw dough.
- On top, grate the cocoa dough using a coarse grater.
- Whisk egg whites with sugar until stiff peaks form. Add jelly powder, mix briefly.
- Spread meringue over the cocoa dough.
- Take out the dough from the freezer, grate it over the top of the cake.
- Bake the prepared cake for about 50 minutes until the top is golden brown.
