Poppy Seed Cake Delight

Ingredients

  • 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (added to 1/3 of the dough)
  • 550 g ready-made poppy seed filling
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 packet lemon-flavored jelly powder
  • Just under 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Incorporate chopped butter into the flour, then add egg yolks, sugar, and baking powder. Knead until smooth dough forms.
  2. Divide the dough into 3 parts.
  3. Line the bottom of the baking dish with one part of the dough.
  4. Put the second part of the dough in the freezer.
  5. For the third part, add cocoa powder and knead the dough.
  6. Spread poppy seed filling over the raw dough.
  7. On top, grate the cocoa dough using a coarse grater.
  8. Whisk egg whites with sugar until stiff peaks form. Add jelly powder, mix briefly.
  9. Spread meringue over the cocoa dough.
  10. Take out the dough from the freezer, grate it over the top of the cake.
  11. Bake the prepared cake for about 50 minutes until the top is golden brown.
