Easy & Delicious Donuts

Ingredients

  • For the dough:
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) lukewarm milk
  • 1/4 cup (50g) sugar
  • 1 packet dry yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons softened butter
  • 3 1/2 cups (440g) flour
  • Also:
  • Oil for frying
  • For the glaze:
  • 2 1/2 cups (300g) powdered sugar
  • 6 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for a few minutes until the yeast activates and becomes foamy.
  2. Add the egg and softened butter to the bowl, and mix well.
  3. Gradually add the flour to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Once the dough comes together, knead it on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough back into the mixing bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  6. After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  7. Use a donut cutter or a round cutter to cut out donut shapes from the dough. You can also use a smaller cutter to make the donut holes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Carefully add the donuts to the hot oil, frying them in batches for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  10. Once fried, remove the donuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  11. In a separate bowl, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and water until smooth.
  12. Dip each donut into the glaze, ensuring it's fully coated, then place them on a wire rack to set.
  13. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving the donuts. Enjoy your homemade donuts!
