Easy & Delicious Donuts
Ingredients
- For the dough:
- 3/4 cup (180ml) lukewarm milk
- 1/4 cup (50g) sugar
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons softened butter
- 3 1/2 cups (440g) flour
- Also:
- Oil for frying
- For the glaze:
- 2 1/2 cups (300g) powdered sugar
- 6 tablespoons water
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for a few minutes until the yeast activates and becomes foamy.
- Add the egg and softened butter to the bowl, and mix well.
- Gradually add the flour to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Once the dough comes together, knead it on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough back into the mixing bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Use a donut cutter or a round cutter to cut out donut shapes from the dough. You can also use a smaller cutter to make the donut holes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully add the donuts to the hot oil, frying them in batches for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Once fried, remove the donuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- In a separate bowl, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and water until smooth.
- Dip each donut into the glaze, ensuring it's fully coated, then place them on a wire rack to set.
- Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving the donuts. Enjoy your homemade donuts!
