Apple Yeast Cake

Ingredients

  • for the dough and crumble (for a 7x9-inch pan):
  • 1 packet dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 7 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • Additional:
  • 6 apples
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • for the crumble: (double the ingredients if you want more crumble)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice the apples. Transfer them to a deep skillet, add sugar and cinnamon, and cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples start to break down.
  2. Beat one egg for brushing the top of the dough and crumble before baking.

For Crumble:

  1. Dough Preparation: Mix flour with sugar, egg, warm milk, melted butter, and yeast. Knead the dough either with a dough hook or by hand. If it's too sticky, add 2 tablespoons of flour. Cover and let it rise until doubled in size.
  2. Preparing the Apple Filling: (using about half of the ingredients mentioned above)
Once the dough has risen, knead it briefly again and divide it into two parts.
  3. Roll out each part. Place one part at the bottom of the pan, then spread the cooked apples on top, and cover with the other rolled-out part of the dough.
  4. Brush the dough with beaten egg and sprinkle with the crumble mixture.
  5. Baking: Bake at 350°F (180°C) for about 35-40 minutes. The crumble might bake faster!
