Poppy Seed Swirl Rolls


  • 25g yeast
  • 125ml warm milk
  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 50g melted butter
  • 3 eggs
  • Poppy seed filling
  • 1 egg for egg wash


  1. In a cup, crumble the yeast and add a tablespoon of sugar. Pour in the warm milk, add a tablespoon of flour, and mix well. Let it sit for 15 minutes to activate.
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift the flour and add the sugar, eggs, melted butter, and activated yeast mixture.
  3. Knead the dough until smooth, then let it rise for at least an hour.
  4. Once risen, roll out the dough into a rectangle.
  5. Spread the poppy seed filling evenly over the dough.
  6. Fold one long side of the dough towards the center, then fold the other long side over it.
  7. Cut the dough into equal pieces.
  8. Use a wooden spoon to make an indentation along each roll.
  9. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, let them rest for 10 minutes, then brush with beaten egg.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
